This heatwave has been difficult to cope with. On Monday when I arrived into work, I notice the local A/C unit had stopped cooling the air it was circulating. Temperature was about 80 degrees in here yesterday. Fortunately my cubicle mate and I remembered there was another wall unit in an office nearby that was unused. We cranked it up and hooked up a fan yesterday and today it’s much better working conditions.
Unfortunately, my car is a different story. The A/C on that stopped working on my commute home. The 112F temperatures made the rest of the commute very uncomfortable. I lost a good amount of sleep trying think my through the problem, trying to estimate the amount of time and money this would cost based on the symptoms.
Then this morning, my brother in Portland tells me his home’s A/C has failed. And reminds me that Mom is relying on just a small window unit for her home in Boise. Not the best way to start a Friday, but it’s a reminder to be grateful for things that are easily taken for granted.
I am thankful that my central A/C is still working and will make sure to keep up on its maintenance schedule. Hopefully the car situation will just require a freon recharge and not a new compressor. The heat is supposed to relent by Monday falling to about 95F, but we’ve got today and the weekend of triple digits to contend with in the meantime. Stay hydrated and shaded everyone.
